Please join us for our Fall Leadership Meeting, LEAD: Leadership, Excellence, Accountability, Development.  Our dynamic presenter will discuss non-profit leadership, including roles and responsibilities of board members, the differences between non-profit organizations and how to effectively collaborate to move your organization's mission forward. 

Alita-Geri Carter, MSN,RN, CPNP-PC, is an outcomes driven change agent, a health advocate, children's book publisher and author, nurse practitioner, and the CEO and Founder of The Commission for Health. She has experience as an Assistant Director of Nursing-Unit based, a Nurse Practice Educator, Infection Prevention and Control Nurse, and as an Assistant Director of Nursing, where she assisted in directing over 200 employees. She has been a Super User and nurse practice educator (responsible for building new hire orientation curriculums within learning management systems and determining which functions within EMRs best serve quality outcomes and support the providers’ success). Ms. Carter has worked as a nurse consultant/project officer with HRSA since October of 2019 whereby she has managed more than 20 million dollars with federally funded recipients that support Federally Qualified Health Centers and healthcare in the United States. In her time at HRSA, she has participated in several workgroups, gained experience with grants and cooperative agreements, earned multiple performance awards, has been recognized for work done in workgroups, and received two Administrator’s awards. She operated the first School-Based Health Center in Howard County, Maryland, in 2013 and helped establish the health center.

She volunteers to raise awareness with students across the globe and nation through her work. She has reached more than 600 students across 14 states, two continents, and 28 classrooms. She currently serves as the treasurer and a board member for the 5th District of the Maryland Nurses Association. She is also a member of the Learning Disability Association. Before 2022, she served as a legislative committee member for the Maryland chapter of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners. Her legislative advocacy efforts also include serving on the City of Bowie Education Committee whereby she proposed a recognition program for children with varying educational needs. Ms. Carter currently serves as a member of the legislative committee for the Maryland Nurses Association. She has authored numerous letters of support and opposition to support the increase of value for her community, and the promotion of healthcare access and equity. A few accolades to mention are the Prince George's County Council Appreciation Award for the 2020 Black History Program, City of Bowie Mayor's Proclamation issued by Mayor Timothy Adams in March 2021, and a Nomination for Top 100 Healthcare Visionaries by the International Forum on Advancements Healthcare.
