Legislative Victory: Progress in Addressing Workplace Violence

Posted almost 4 years ago

We took a giant step forward in making nurses and their colleagues safer in their workplace.  On May 7th, Governor Hogan allowed HB 364 – Identification Tags and Badges – Name Requirements to go into law.  This means nurses will not have to have their full name on their identification badges which is critical to their safety.   MNA partnered with the Maryland Hospital Association in the Workplace Violence Collaborative to achieve this legislation victory.  We thank our sponsor, Delegate Sid Saab (District 33 – Anne Arundel Co), for his leadership on this issue.

Many of our nurses will recall another critical measure HB 126/SB 846 Peace Order (Delegate Atterbeary/Senator Sydnor).  That measure passed the House and almost passed the full Senate, but the legislative session ended early.   We made great progress and will continue to work with our partners at MHA to advance this measure in the next legislative session.
