Greetings, All MNA Members:
This notification is to inform you of two leadership opportunities within the Maryland Nurses Association (MNA) within the upcoming election cycle.
MNA is seeking nominations for two Board of Directors offices:
- President-Elect
- Secretary
MNA will also be electing Representatives and Alternates to the ANA Membership Assembly:
- MNA Officer Representatives (2)
- MNA Alternate Representatives (2)
Nominees for all positions must be joint MNA/ANA members and active in the association. You can self-nominate or you can nominate someone else if the individual meets the criteria and consents to serve. Your nomination package must be received no later than July 15, 2020.
Nominees for the MNA Officer Representative to the ANA Membership Assembly must meet the following criteria:
- Be a joint MNA/ANA member in good standing.
- Willing to serve for a two-year term or until a successor is elected.
- Be knowledgeable of Parliamentary Procedures.
- Be able to speak articulately and concisely in large group settings.
- May not concurrently serve as an Officer or Director of another organization if such participation might result in a conflict of interest with MNA and/or ANA.
- Engaged in MNA activities at the District and/or State level for a minimum of three (3) years.
- Term of Office: Starts Jan 01, 2021 and ends Dec 31, 2022.
Nominees for the MNA Board of Director positions must meet the following criteria:
- Be joint MNA/ANA members and active in the association.
- Have been members of MNA for a minimum of three (3) years.
- Have had experience as a member of a MNA and/or DNA committee, DNA Board of Directors, or committee chair at the state or district level.
- Must consent to serve the term to which one is elected.
- Cannot serve simultaneously as a District officer on the District Nurses Association Board of Directors and as an officer on the MNA Board of Directors.
The President - Elect Shall:
- Serve as a member of the MNA Legislative Committee
- Serve as a Member of both the MNA Board of Directors and the MNA Executive Committee
- Serve for one year as President-Elect, then transitions to the role of MNA President for two (2) years, and finally transitions to the Immediate Past President for one year.
a) President Elect – Nov 2020 to Nov 2021
b) President – Nov 2021 to Nov 2023
c) Immediate Past President – Nov 2023 to Nov 2024
The President Shall:
- Serve as chairperson of the MNA BOD and the Executive Committee.
- Be the principle representative of the association and serve as its spokesperson on policy and position established by the MNA BOD
- Preside at all meetings of the Association
- Serve as ex-officio member of all committees except the Committee on Nominations
- Delegate appropriate duties to the Chief Staff Officer
- Annually appoint committee chairpersons with the approval of the MNA BOD.
- Represent MNA at the ANA Leadership Council
- Incur a two (2) year commitment (Nov 2021 – Nov 2023)
The Immediate Past President Shall
- Serve as a member of the MNA Legislative Committe
- Serve as a Member of both the MNA Board of Directors and the MNA Executive Committee
- Serve for one year as the Immediate Past President for one year following their presidency and completing their total four (4) year commitment (Nov 2023 – Nov 2024)
The Secretary Shall:
- Record the proceedings of all MNA BOD, Executive Committee, an annual membership, and special meetings to include the number of MNA members present at membership meetings and what percentage of the membership that number currently reflects.
- Provide each member of the MNA BOD and Executive Committee with a copy of the minutes.
- Incur a two (2) year commitment starting in Nov 2020 and ending in Nov 2022.
You must submit the following documents as part of the nomination package:
- completed MNA Consent to Serve Form (attached)
- 200-word or less essay describing your qualifications for the position and why you are interested in serving in the position
- curriculum vitae or resume
- jpeg head & shoulder photo
The nomination packets should be sent to the MNA Nominating Committee via email to jpatterson@marylandrn.org After validating the qualifications to be a MNA candidate, prospective candidates will be provided with information regarding an opportunity to provide a campaign statement to the MNA membership before the start of the annual election.
Nominations must be directed to the MNA Nominating Committee and received no later than July 15, 2020. Candidates will receive acknowledgment of receipt of the their nomination package. Thank you.
