Nurse Leadership Program, Program Director

University of Maryland Baltimore, School of Nursing

Dr. Yolanda Ogbolu directs the Nurse Leadership Institute at University of Maryland, is a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nurse Faculty Scholar Alum, a fellow of the National Academies of Practice, and Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.  She is a graduate of the University of Maryland Baltimore, a Baltimore native, wife and mother of four.  She previously served as Director of Global Health for the Schools of Nursing and Medicine. With extensive experience as a neonatal nurse practitioner, her research and scholarship focus on advancing health equity locally and globally. Projects center on strengthening global health systems and nursing capacity, providing culturally and linguistically appropriate care, and addressing social isolation and social determinants of health in marginalized communities. Funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for two global learning for health equity projects, she is translating a social inclusion program from Brazil to Baltimore and developing a network of global learning to advance health equity with colleagues from Detroit, New York, Navajo Nation of the Southwest, and Athens, Ohio. Engaged in policy advocacy, Ogbolu leads a state-mandated taskforce on social determinants of health in Baltimore and served on taskforces to reduce disparities in newborn outcomes and improve delivery of culturally and linguistically appropriate care.
