It is with great pleasure that we announce Dr. Christie Simon-Waterman as MNA’s new President. Dr. Simon-Waterman is a highly respected member of the Maryland Nurses Association. She is a family nurse practitioner, a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society, a Jonas Scholar recipient, a fellow of the Nurse Leadership Institute, and an advocate for the advancement of quality health care for all. Her passion and devotion to her beliefs in caring for her clients, as well as her priority of education and health prevention, are demonstrated through her innovative utilization of telehealth during this COVID-19 pandemic. With the use of telehealth, she has been able to successfully double the number of clients that she examines daily. She works long hours and spends a great deal of time providing the appropriate interventions needed for the most positive outcomes associated with her patient population.

She is a champion for health care policies and serves her clients with the utmost honesty, integrity, wisdom, and gentle care, as she guides their health journey. She currently serves in an extremely vital role on the Maryland Nurses Association executive board and is an active and engaged member of the Legislative, Finance and Convention committees.

Christie Simon-Waterman was President of MNA District 2 in 2010 and was instrumental in revitalizing one of MNA’s largest districts. She has previously represented Maryland as the Registered Nurse Representative at the American Nurses Advocacy Institute and was later awarded the Outstanding Volunteer service award for Baltimore County Public Schools. Amongst her many accomplishments, she has taken a leadership role in ensuring continuity and quality in service to her clients. Her contributions to the nursing profession also include, publications with DNP Scholarly Projects, publications in “The Journal of Nurse Practitioners,” as well as in “The Maryland Nurse News and Journal.”  During MNA’s 118th Convention, Dr. Waterman’s work was recognized with the “Nurse Superhero Award.”

We are honored to have her step into this important leadership role. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Simon-Waterman as our new MNA President
