The Maryland Nurses Association (MNA) is seeking a Director of Continuing Education

We are seeking a registered nurse to support the Accredited Approver and Provider Units. This is a part-time position in a primarily virtual office environment for the professional role in program review and education. This opportunity is available for an experienced nurse educator with a clinical background.

Role Title:  Director of Continuing Education
Status: Part-time, virtual environment

Role Description: Supports the day to day activities of Maryland Nurses Association’s Accredited Approver and Provider Units. Working with MNA volunteers, serves as the nurse responsible for the peer review process of the Accredited Approver Unit. – make sure is clear it’s a collaboration

Essential Functions:
Is accountable to the accredited approver and provider directors for the day to day function of the Approver and Provider Units for the adherence to ANCC nursing continuing professional development (NCPD) accreditation program criteria. Facilitates the peer review process for the Accredited Provider and Approver Units. Provides guidance and support to MNA’s volunteer Nurse Peer Reviewers during the review process. Promotes positive customer service environment.

Qualifications:

  • Registered nurse with an active, unrestricted nursing license
  • Must have baccalaureate in nursing, graduate degree in nursing preferred
  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in nursing education experience preferred
  • Experience as a nurse planner of ANCC accredited programs preferred
  • Skilled in interpersonal communication and relationships, group facilitation, collaboration, and conflict resolution.
  • Strong computer skills, including managing excel spreadsheets and comfortable with virtual meeting and learning environments.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates the peer review process for individual activity and approved provider application review.
  • Supports the onboarding for new nurse peer reviewers and supports ongoing training for all nurse peer reviewers and district nurse planners.
  • Conducts reviews of individual activity applications and approved provider applications as needed
  • Acts as a nurse planner for MNA’s continuing education programs as needed.
  • Provides guidance to applicants and approved providers related to identified deficiencies in applications and answers questions about the process, strategies for improving activities, or provider unit functions.
  • Provides guidance to authors of abstract submissions to the accredited provider unit.
  • Implements and maintains strategies to evaluate the effectiveness of the approver and provider units.
  • Plans and facilitates nurse peer reviewer meetings.
  • Provides guidance and support to nurse peer reviewers during the peer review process.
  • Communicates changes of the American Nurse Credentialing Centers Commission on Accreditation for Nursing Continuing Professional Development (ANCC COA-NCPD) criteria and board of nursing rules to nurse peer reviewers and appropriate stakeholders, as necessary.
  • Incorporates Nursing Continuing Professional Development (NCPD) accreditation program criteria within Approver and Provider Units’ policies and procedures.
  • Compiles and reports accredited approver and provider unit data as required.
  • Acts as the liaison between ANCC and MNA, and operates the accredited approver unit as an agent of the MNA accreditation program.
  • Collects, monitors, and evaluates quality outcome measures related to the accredited approver unit and nursing professional development.
  • Attends and supports the planning and implementation of MNA’s Annual Convention and other continuing education events.
  • Marketing and promotion of MNA's Accredited Approver Unit.
  • Other assignments as assigned.
