NAME OF BOARD/COMMISSION: Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON)
Serving on MBON is a tremendous opportunity to learn about our profession and serve to protect the public.
MEMBERSHIP COMPOSITION:
7 RNs 2 Consumer (public) members
3 LPNs 1 Advanced Practice nurse
REGULAR BOARD MEETINGS:
Board meetings are held*:
On alternate months, a meeting is held on the 4th Tuesday from 2 PM until 5-6 PM .
Each month a meeting is held on the 4th Wednesday - 9:00 AM until 5-7 PM.
Disciplinary Hearings** are held at each meeting and may run late, members will need to maintain flexibility in their schedule should meetings run late. Please note that there are numerous documents that must be reviewed in advance of the meetings to ensure that members are prepared to actively participate.
Additionally, on the 2nd Tuesday of each month beginning at 9 AM, the board holds Settlement Conferences. Two board members must be present at these conferences and the members rotate coverage. Each member should expect to attend these meetings at least four times (months) per year.

DETAIL OF MONTHLY TIME COMMITMENT:
Executive Board meetings generally run approximately 8-9 hours. Settlement conferences run approximately 4 hours.
FUNCTION OF BOARD/COMMISSION: (Brief Description)
The mission of the Maryland Board of Nursing is protection of the public through licensure, education, practice, discipline initiatives under constant review and development for 330,000 licensees/certificate holders: advanced practice registered nurses, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, certified nursing assistants, medication technicians, electrologists, and direct entry midwives.
OTHER DUTIES OF MEMBERS: (Types of Committees, Exams, etc.)
Members are assigned to participate on Adhoc and Standing Committees of the Board. These may be held via teleconference. Members have the opportunity to participate on National Council State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) committees and travel to national meetings. Annual Board Education day, as well as semi-annual education sessions held at alternate times.
BOARD MEMBER COMPENSATION: (Stipend/Travel/Other)
$200.00 per day for Board meetings in addition to mileage in accordance with the State approved reimbursement rate. There is also a stipend for settlement conferences.
NCSBN travel opportunities are fully funded by NCSBN or MBON if needed.
