The Nursing Foundation of Maryland, Inc. (NFM) is the philanthropic arm of the Maryland Nurses Association (MNA) and is a 501 (c)(3) charitable, nonprofit organization. The NFM awarded twelve scholarships at the MNA 120th Annual Convention totaling $9,500.

There were three additional scholarships awarded this year: the Inaugural MNA District 2 Scholarship and two extra NFM Scholarships. In the past only one NFM scholarship was awarded annually; however, thanks to the generosity of the districts and members who donated gift baskets and prizes, the Convention and Gala attendees who supported the raffles, and the NFM Trustees who volunteer their efforts to support the work of the Foundation, the NFM awarded a total of three scholarships.

Understandably, many of the nursing students were unable to attend the NFM Scholarship Event in-person due to clinicals, mid-term exams and classes.  We were very happy that three of the nursing scholarship recipients: Makenna Kelsey, Sakeenah (Nina) Nasser, and Diamond Richardson were able to join us in person at the MNA 120th Annual Convention (see group photo). 

This year there were many more worthy scholarship applicants than available scholarships. Districts are encouraged to follow District 2’s lead and establish a scholarship in your district’s name. MNA members and supporters are also encouraged to sponsor a new scholarship. Two of the current NFM Trustees, Marye Dorsey Kellermann and Sadie Parker; and one former NFM Trustee and past MNA President Pat Travis sponsor scholarships annually.

If you sponsor a scholarship, you may set additional criteria specific for your scholarship. All scholarship recipients meet the high standards of academic achievement, community service and leadership, in addition to any scholarship specific criteria.
