Maryland General Assembly Considering Critical Nursing Shortage Bills This Session

Your voice is needed to get these bills over the finish line at Nurses Night

Pathways to Nursing:  This groundbreaking legislation establishes a program to support students in the first part of their nursing education. We are losing potential nurses because attrition rates are too high in community college programs.   These students face more challenges with child care, transportation issues, and the need to work multiple jobs.   The Pathways Program will help aspiring nursing students be successful by providing wraparound support during the first leg of their nursing journey in their LPN programs, setting them up for success in their careers and future nursing education.  This legislation is sponsored by Delegate Bonnie Cullison, Senator Clarence Lam, and Senator Mike McKay.

Equity for School Nurses:   The Janet Hoffman Loan Repayment Program is a critical program to help nurses and other health professionals pay back their loans while working in the public sector.   The only problem – the Janet Hoffman Program nurses exclude school nurses.   This legislation provides equity for school nurses in the Janet Hoffman Loan Repayment Program.  This legislation is sponsored by Delegate Bernice Mireku-North and Senator Pam Beidle.
