MNA Seeks an Executive Director

The Executive Director is a hybrid executive position of the Maryland Nurses Association (MNA) working full-time hours. MNA is governed by a Board of Directors (Board), which serves as an advisory board to the Executive Director for setting priorities and strategic direction, overseeing resource allocations, and ensuring that all activities align with MNA’s mission. The Board is comprised of the Officers and eight voting-member district representatives. The committee chair(s) meet with the Board but have no vote.

 

The Executive Director is responsible for the management, development, and operations of the association. The Executive Director reports directly to the entire MNA Board and the President as their liaison. The Executive Director and the Board are accountable to the membership. The Executive Director will work with MNA committees and districts and perform duties as delegated by the MNA Board to achieve MNA’s mission, and, with Board approval may act as a spokesperson to stakeholders on behalf of MNA at local, state, and national events.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Registered Nurse with an unencumbered Maryland or Compact State license, at least five years of clinical experience with demonstrated leadership experience, a minimum of three years of demonstrated administrative leadership and management experience, including financial budgetary and fiscal accountability, and an interest in public relations and the legislative process;
  • Senior level experience leading and managing the daily operations and financial affairs of an organization and working with nursing and healthcare organizations;
  • Experience in advocacy, legislative process, data and contract analysis, fund raising, grant writing, marketing and public relations;
  • Expertise in developing, implementing and managing budgets, developing and reading and explaining financial spreadsheets;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong technical skills and a desire to develop further;
  • Strong business skills, including development of budgets and spreadsheets, forecasts, revenue and expenses summaries, and management against approved budgets;
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people;
  • Informed about the Standards of Governance for a nonprofit association;
  • Mission-driven, high integrity, well-organized, respectful of others, and self-directed.

 

EDUCATION

A master’s degree or higher is required, with at least one degree in nursing.
