2024 MNA COMMITTEE OF TELLERS REPORT

This is the MNA 2024 Committee on Tellers report to the MNA Membership.

The MNA 2024 Committee of Tellers membership is as follows:

Dr. Josephine Fava Hochuli, Chair of the 2024 Maryland Nurses Association (MNA) Committee of Tellers from District 3, along with four additional Tellers:  Sorah Levy, from District 2, Dr. Doris Clark from District 5. Ms. Sadie Parker from District 7, and Mr. Yunlay Bridges from District 9.

In accordance with MNA Bylaws, given that this was an even-numbered year, three positions were to be elected at the state level. MNA Officers (President Elect and Secretary) and MNA Officer Representatives to ANA Membership Assembly (Primary and Secondary Voting Representatives to the ANA MA).  MNA was very fortunate to have five well qualified candidates willing to serve our professional nursing association.

The MNA 2024 Election started at 12:01 AM on July 26, 2024, and ended at 11:59 AM on August 27, 2024. There were 4,420 eligible voters and 411 valid ballots cast, for a participation rate of 9.29%; slightly below the MNA 10%  target goal for this election cycle.

MNA PRESIDENT-ELECT: 

There were two candidates for this position: Dr. Nayna Philipsen (District 2) and Dr. Mary Jean Schumann (District 3).

Dr. Nayna Philipsen was elected as the MNA President-Elect and will transition to President in accordance with the MNA Bylaws.

MNA SECRETARY: 

There was one candidate for this position, Dr. Rebecca Wiseman.

Dr. Rebecca Wiseman was elected as the MNA Secretary and will serve her term in accordance with the MNA Bylaws.

 

MNA OFFICER VOTING REPRESENTATIVES AND NON-VOTING REPRESENTATIVES (ALTERNATES)TO THE ANA MEMBERSHIP ASSEMBLY:

The Maryland Nurses Association has two categories of Representatives to the American Nurses Association Membership Assembly, the highest governing body of the ANA. Those two categories are the Officer Representatives who are elected in the even -numbered years, and the Member-at-Large Representatives who are elected in the odd-numbered years.

 Four of the 2024 MNA Officers consented to be candidates for the MNA Officer Voting Representatives and Non-Voting Representatives (Alternates) to the ANA Membership Assembly: Dr. Nayna Philipsen (District 2), Dr. Karen Evans (District 2), Dr. Lou Bartolo ( District 5 )  and Dr. Mary Jean Schumann  (District 3).

Dr. Karen Evans was elected as the Primary/First MNA Voting Representative to the ANA Membership Assembly for the Officer Category and will serve their term in accordance with the MNA Bylaws.

 

Dr. Lou Bartolo was elected as the Secondary/Second MNA Voting Representative to the ANA Membership Assembly for the Officer Category and will serve their term in accordance with the MNA Bylaws.

 

Dr. Nayna Philipsen was elected as First Non-Voting MNA Representative (Alternate) to the ANA Membership Assembly for the Officer Category and will serve their term in accordance with the MNA Bylaws.

 

Dr. Mary Jean Schumann was elected as Second Non-Voting MNA Representative (Alternate) to the ANA Membership Assembly for the Officer Category and will serve their term in accordance with the MNA Bylaws.

 

The eight 2024 District election results were shared with the District Presidents on September 11,  2024, via email from the MNA President. Those results have been or will be shared with the District membership in accordance with their District Bylaws guidance at the upcoming District meetings.
